Hello HN! Wonderhop is a small browser game with no account needed to play, everyday there are 4 rounds of 7 quesitons like "Name a food that a lot of people hate" The goal depends on the mode: Either gives the answer most people would give, the one no one would give, the oldest answer or the most recent one and there's a leaderboard for the day. The most interesting part of the project was understanding answers that are typed freely and in 10 languages, there was some typos, plurals, nickname, or even duplicate way of sayign the same thing. We needed AI judge that checks it really existes conencted to some API like wikipedia to judge the veracity of each answer really quickly (less than 1s on average) The percentage starts from an estimate but move really fast with the answers of real players. If the list missed a good answer, it gets added as soon as a few different players give it. (There are also a lot of secrets and pop culture references added in the game :) ) A large part of the code was written with AI tools, but the artistic direction the concept and every choice design are human-made We'd love to know if the goal is clear from the very first question while playing and were any good answers rejected unfairly We are a couple of developers from Montreal that like guessing games so we built this in about two month. Thanks a lot!

“The 30-second rounds are perfect for a crowded train, but since there's no account and no save, a single missed tap means your daily climb is gone before you've even left the station.”
BeaThe Jam Judge
“For a tiny daily browser game, it packs an impressive amount of polish—10 languages, an AI verifier, and dynamic live percentages—though the daily reset and low early traction mean its clever core idea lives or dies on whether a community actually shows up.”

How to play

Each day brings four rounds of seven questions, with 30 seconds per question. In Sky mode, give the most common answer to climb higher; in Abyss mode, give the rarest answer to sink deeper. Past and Future modes ask for the oldest or most recent answer, sending players through time with each correct guess. Answers are typed freely and scored up to 100 points each, for a total of 700 per game.

Tips

  • Go with the obvious answer in Sky mode — the most popular response is often the first one that comes to mind.
  • In Abyss mode, think of specific, niche examples that most players wouldn't type, but that are still verifiable.
  • For Past and Future modes, consider historical or current events that connect to the question.
  • Answer quickly — you only have 30 seconds per question, and the percentages update live as other players respond.

Questions

Do I need an account to play?

No, Wonderhop can be played without creating an account.

How are answers judged?

An AI system checks each typed answer against external references like Wikipedia, typically in under a second, to verify it exists.

How do the percentages work?

Percentages start as estimates and are updated in real time based on answers from actual players. If a valid answer isn't in the initial list, it gets added once several players give it.

How many languages are supported?

The game is available in ten languages.
