What it is
TD-808 is a tower defense roguelike set on a 16-step drum sequencer. Enemies are drum sounds such as hi-hats, claps, and toms marching along the loop in time. Your towers are notes in C major, so every layout forms a tune, and some note arrangements unlock hidden combos that fight better.
From the developer
In the developer’s own words, from sadcrawler.itch.io.
TD-808 is a tower defense played on a 16-step sequencer . The enemies are drums: hi-hats, claps, toms and something called DRONE, marching the loop in time. A hi-hat never stops on its own. Someone has to.
Towers are notes in C major, so every layout is a tune, whether you meant it or not. Some tunes turn out to be hidden combos. Those fight better. Towers are wiped after each loop. Try not to get attached. If you lose, the speaker blows.
Made in a few days for the "Genre Collision" Bezi Mega Jam.

Editor takes

“The musical rules are elegant, but the loop-wipe and hidden combos arrive with little explanation, so the aha moments come more from luck than clarity.”

“A snappy one-loop reset creates smart risk-reward, but with no save or meta-progression, the long-term numbers don't give you a reason to keep grinding.”

“Card picks and hidden musical combos give each run a fresh flavor, though the jam-sized scope means runs start feeling samey before the fifth loop.”

“Great for a quick desktop break, but the click-and-right-click controls and lack of saving make it a tough sell for phone-based commuting sessions.”
How to play
Pick a card using keys 1–5 or by clicking, then click a slot to build a tower. Right-click to sell a tower, and press space to pause. Towers are wiped out after each loop, so plan your defenses around the repeating beat before the drums reach the end.
Tips
- Watch the loop timing so you place towers where the drums will pass at the right moment.
- Experiment with different note arrangements to discover hidden combos that fight more effectively.
- Don't rely on one tower surviving — everything is wiped after each loop.
- Sell underperforming towers with right-click to free up resources for better placements.
- Keep an eye on hi-hats first, since they never stop on their own.
Questions
Do I need musical knowledge to play?
No. The music theme and note-based towers are part of the presentation, but the core gameplay is tower defense and roguelike planning.
Can I pause the game?
Yes, pressing space pauses the game.
Do my towers stay between loops?
No, towers are wiped after each loop, so you need to rebuild and adapt every cycle.
What are hidden combos?
Certain note arrangements create hidden combos that fight better, but the specific combos are not fully described in the game's public details.
