Editor takes

NicoThe Commuter
“The click-to-extract loop fits a short break, but the keyboard-only shop and prototype feel tether it to a desktop session rather than a quick mobile one.”
TheoThe Number Cruncher
“Credits and tools hint at a longer loop, but the developer admits the last item is unreachable, so the progression curve is more tease than payoff.”
RookThe Run Addict
“One test tube fills and the experiment ends; without run-to-run variation, replay value rests almost entirely on that jump-scare sting hitting again.”
BeaThe Jam Judge
“For a jam game it sells the silly-horror premise with a tidy test-tube loop and a cheeky impossible shop item, though it stays a one-mechanic prototype.”

How to play

Click on the tomato to extract samples and fill the test tube. As you gather samples, you earn credits that can be spent in the shop, opened by pressing P, to unlock tools that aid the experiment.

Tips

  • Save up credits early and unlock tools that make extraction faster.
  • Keep an eye on test tube capacity so you can finish the experiment efficiently.
  • Follow the in-game instructions closely; unusual events may happen if you deviate.
  • Stay alert for sudden changes or scares — the experiment is not entirely safe.
  • Don't ignore the shop: tools can meaningfully speed up the clicking loop.

Questions

Is Project TOMATO free to play?

Yes, it is free to play in your browser on itch.io.

Does the game save progress?

The page does not mention any save system, and the game is a short prototype, so progress is likely lost when you close it.

How long is the game?

It is a jam prototype meant for a short play session, probably a few minutes once you understand the clicking and shop mechanics.

Is it scary?

It has horror-themed presentation and at least one jumpscare, so it may startle sensitive players.

Can you actually get the nuclear cannon?

According to the developer, no. The game ends before you can afford it, and the item is not fully implemented.
