What it is
Dungeon Sookuma is a traditional turn-based roguelike about a baby bear named Sookuma who descends into a dream dungeon that rearranges itself. The goal is to steal the Dream Crystal and then climb back to the first floor alive while every sound can draw something closer.
From the developer
In the developer’s own words, from store.steampowered.com.
Combine 14 Sookuma lineages with 19 classes and descend into an ever-changing dream dungeon. Identify strange items, bargain with 19 gods, steal the Dream Crystal, and fight your way back out in a traditional turn-based roguelike.
Editor takes
“Fourteen lineages times nineteen classes plus nineteen gods to bargain with sounds like a build-crafter's playground — I just hope the demo proves runs actually feel different.”
“A waking dungeon where sound draws danger and items need identifying is a tantalizing rule-set, but I need to see the turn order to trust whether the rearrangements are fair or just arbitrary.”
How to play
You combine one of 14 Sookuma lineages with one of 19 classes to build your character, then explore a grid-based dungeon with turn-based movement and combat. You must identify strange items, bargain with gods, steal the Dream Crystal, and fight your way back out before the dungeon is done with you.
Tips
- Treat sound as a risk: if every noise can attract enemies, think before making loud moves.
- Identify strange items before relying on them, since unknown equipment can be dangerous.
- Use bargains with gods carefully, as they may come with costs or consequences.
- Plan a route back to the first floor before you steal the Dream Crystal.
- Experiment with different lineage and class combinations to find a playstyle that works.
