What it is

Breadwinner is a short browser game about an eldest sibling trying to support a household on a single salary. Over six paydays before Christmas, you choose which bills to pay and which to let slide, then see the personal consequences at home. It is presented as an everyday horror story and includes mature themes such as illness, debt, and the loss of a loved one.

"Ikaw na lang maaasahan namin."

"You're the only one we can count on now."

Breadwinner deals with mature topics that may be disturbing to others, such as the illness and loss of a loved one, debt and threats from a lender, gambling, alcohol, eviction, and a child being bullied (mentioned, not shown). It shows some dried blood, but no gore.

This game is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to real people, living or dead, businesses, or events is purely coincidental, except for a few nods to content creators, included with their permission.

You're the eldest and the only one with a salary. Six paydays until Christmas, on the 15th and 30th, and each one has to cover the rent, the electricity bill, your mother Nanay 's medicine, your sister's school fees, and a coloring book for Bunso , the youngest.

It's never enough for all of it, so every payday you choose what gets paid and what goes unpaid. Each payday is one night of play. Then you walk home and see what those choices did to your family.

At home are Nanay , your father Tatay , your sister Princess , and Bunso , your little brother. At the start you pick who you are: Kuya (big brother) or Ate (big sister).

Breadwinner is an everyday horror story happening all around us. Play in English or Filipino, as Ate or Kuya, on your browser on phone, tablet, or PC!

Features

Split each payday between the bills and the family.

Everyone remembers what you paid and what you refused.

Every bill you skip has a consequence.

Your phone has new apps:

QCash, a fictional mobile digital bank

FYP, a social media feed with a curated For You Page or "FYP"

a functional Calculator to help crunch the numbers

Wishlist, a shortcut that takes you to the Steam game page

Bet67, a satirical online casino/gambling app

16 endings across five storylines: the household, Tatay, Nanay, Princess, and Bunso.

Each run lands one ending in every storyline, so play again to find the rest.

The credits roll as a feed where you can leave a message for the breadwinners out there.

Messages are sent online, as described under Data and privacy below.

The game saves at the start of each night, so you can continue later.

Play in Filipino or English. Playtime about 30 to 120 minutes.

Controls

PC : A and D to walk. Click to interact. Escape opens the pause menu. Mobile: Tap ◀️▶️ to walk. Tap to interact.

Data and privacy

When a run finishes, the game sends your endings and the run's numbers, like bills paid and nights the family had rice for dinner. No name or account is attached. Your end message is sent only if you write one, and it is shared publicly only if you tick the box. The game says this on its first screen. The full policy is at mithika.studio/privacy .

Editor takes

TheoThe Number Cruncher
“Six paydays of brutal trade-offs is a tight loop, and 16 endings give the spreadsheet side real replay teeth, but with no upgrade pacing it's a knife-edge balance, not a long curve.”
NicoThe Commuter
“Half-hour sessions suit mobile well with tap controls and saves at the start of each night, though chasing all 16 endings becomes a longer commitment than a quick commute.”
JunoThe Puzzle Purist
“The rules are brutally clear: every skipped bill is a visible consequence, and the calculator app keeps the maths fair, though the real puzzle is emotional rather than mechanical.”

How to play

Move with A/D keys or the on-screen arrows on touch devices, and click or tap to interact with people and objects. On each payday you split your salary among rent, electricity, medicine, school fees, and a small item for the youngest child. Your phone lets you check balances, read a social feed, use a calculator, and open a satirical gambling app.

Tips

  • Use the calculator and the QCash app to review your balance before committing to a payday choice.
  • Everyone remembers what you paid and what you refused, so skipped bills can change how family members react later.
  • Prioritize consequences that arrive quickly, but know that some choices only matter further down the line.
  • Don't expect to cover everything — the game is built around difficult trade-offs.
  • Replay as both Ate and Kuya and try different combinations to discover more of the 16 endings.
